Marty received his master’s degree in physical therapy from Central Michigan University in 1997 and continued with an additional two-year residency in orthopedic manual physical therapy in Alma, MI. He also holds a bachelor’s of science degree in biology / chemistry from Calvin College.
Marty was certified as an orthopedic manual physical therapist in 1999 and was designated a fellow in the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapists in 2000, one of less than 25 in the entire state of Michigan (and one of less than 10 in Western Michigan)FAAOMPT's. He received a second manual therapy certification as a Certified Integrated Manual Therapist in 2006. Marty is one of the only therapists along the lakeshore certified in manual therapy.
Marty is adjunct faculty at Grand Valley State University’s Physical Therapy Program in Clinical Kinesiology and Spinal Manual Therapy classes. GVSU Adjunct FacultyHe has been a lead instructor with Great Lakes Seminars since 2002, teaching continuing education for physical and occupational therapists, doctors, and chiropractors. His courses are a clinical approach to myofascial release and a muscle energy approach to treating dysfunctions in the cervical and thoracic spine and ribs. Marty's coworkers describe him as "putting others before himself, having magic hands and a 6th sense for manual therapy, and humble."
