Manual Therapy

What is Manual Therapy?
It is using the hands to deliver treatment as opposed to devices or machines. Manual therapy involves the therapist working the body and body tissue hands-on, with varying degrees of pressure (hard or soft), speed, force (forceful or gentle) and distance.

Manual Therapy + Functional Approach = S3
While manual therapy is becoming increasingly popular, very few physical therapists apply these techniques as part of a functional medicine approach.

Manual therapy supports a functional approach because it is used to facilitate normal reactions and movements in the body. Coupling manual therapy with functional medicine the therapist can treat the symptoms as well as address and treat the source of the problem. Relaxing tense muscles, increasing flexibility, and easing pain while evaluating and treating the source of the problem and improving the overall movement functions of the person.

What Does That Mean To You?
Manual therapy applied with a functional approach means you will have constant, undivided attention from your therapist. The source of the problem is addressed, so when your therapist works with you, together you address the causes and work toward improvement and wellness. At S3 we know when to treat and because we’re hands-on and looking at the real cause, we know when to stop.
